80th Independence Day Celebrations Take Place at Indonesia Pavilion, Expo 2025 Osaka

Osaka, Kansai, Japan 18 August 2025 – The vibrant celebrations of the Republic of Indonesia’s 80th Anniversary was felt at the Indonesia Pavilion at World Expo 2025 Osaka. Over two days, between 16–17 August 2025, the Indonesia Pavilion presented a series of festivities combining tradition, contemporary art, and popular music performances, bringing the distinctive spirit of Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations to the international stage.
The festivities began on 16 August with traditional dance performances, followed by a show from Papermoon Theatre, and concluded with an energetic performance by JKT48 that captivated the audience.
The highlight of the celebration took place on 17 August with the Red and White Flag Saluting Ceremony at the Indonesia Pavilion, attended by 50 participants consisting of invited guests and pavilion staff. The ceremony was solemn yet full of togetherness.
“This experience is truly unforgettable. After years of holding ceremonies during national holidays in Indonesia, this time we were able to hold one at the Indonesia Pavilion,” the Director of the Indonesia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Rahmat Mulianda said. The Indonesia Pavilion also invited several leaders from neighbouring country pavilions, including Australia and India, to attend a thanksgiving tumpeng-cutting ceremony.
After the ceremony, Papermoon Theatre returned to perform for Pavilion visitors, followed by a variety of competitions characteristic of Independence Day celebrations, featuring traditional games such as paired balloon dancing, inserting pencils into bottles, and picture relay. To close the festivities at the Indonesia Pavilion, Indonesian pop group JKT48 once again enlivened the celebration. By the end of the day, the Indonesia Pavilion had welcomed 29,129 visitors, bringing the total number of visitors to 2,024,099 since its opening in April 2025. This celebration was not just entertainment, but also cultural diplomacy showcasing Indonesia’s dynamic spirit. Thousands of visitors had the opportunity to directly experience the uniqueness of Indonesian culture while sharing in the pride of the nation.
